Many people live by the saying “I’ll just sleep when I’m dead” and while that may be said lightheartedly, the grim reality is that a lack of sleep can seriously affect your health. Sleep offers the body the opportunity to repair damaged tissue, produce essential hormones, and it improves memory. These are just a few of the basic benefits of sleep.

Studies show that people who sleep less than six hours a night, or those who consistently do not get enough deep sleep, are both at a higher risk of having heart attack and stroke. Sleep apnea is another major ailment. Sleep apnea has a similar effect of being choked – but while deep asleep at night. This results in the heart rate going up and then raising the body’s blood pressure. Some experts suggest that sleep apnea could be responsible for one-third of all cases of high blood pressure in adults.

Another important risk related to a lack of sleep is the risk of excessive weight gain. While studies are not quite sure whether or not a lack of sleep is the cause or effect of weight gain, there is enough evidence to suggest a strong link. One fact is that being deprived of sleep leads to an insensitivity to insulin, which is essential for a healthy metabolism. Sleep deprivation also causes hunger hormones to increase thereby resulting in eating more simply due to hunger.

When a lack of sleep can lead to excessive weight gain, heart attacks, and stroke, it makes sense then to put more effort in getting more sleep and giving our bodies what they need.

Hair is one of the most important parts of our bodies. It is not only a means to beautify ourselves but also a way to express ourselves. It is hard to get certain hair cuts or go for a certain look if hair just won’t grow. Many women struggle with this issue and end up paying large sums of money just for expensive treatments and hair products that rarely ever work. There are several ways to naturally improve the speed at which hair grows and are inexpensive for the most part.

There are two routes to take with improving the rate of hair growth; internally and externally. Internally, you want to feed your hair the necessary nutrition it needs to grow. Eat plenty of foods rich in protein, iron, and zinc. Maintain a healthy intake of fat. By cutting fat, you deprive your hair of the opportunity to grow and make the most of other vitamins you consume. Also, a lack of vitamin C can lead to weak hair that breaks, which will delay hair growth. Avoiding unhealthy junk food can also improve your overall health and, hence, condition of hair.

Externally, many hair masks if used regularly can help speed up hair growth. Consider masks you can make at home. One to try is a combination of one spoon of honey , one spoon of coconut oil, two spoons of olive oil, and half a mashed up avocado. Mix these to create a pasty consistency and massage into dry hair. Wash as you would normally wash your hair with shampoo and do this once a week.

Avoid both emotional and physical stress since both can directly affect the health of your hair. Try to avoid over-styling. Finally, get a full health check to make sure you do not have any underlying health issues that could be stalling your hair growth.

You never know where and when you might need a quick fix. That is what these tips are exactly for!

When you have worn your lipstick down all the way you might think that you have to toss it and buy a new one. But that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Use a small application tool to scoop out what’s left and put it in a small plastic container; mix some shea butter in and you have a tinted lip balm.

For more precise eyebrow plucking, comb your brows with clear mascara. Let it dry. Not only does it help make the shape clearer, it makes it easier to grip hairs that need to be plucked out, saving you time and frustration.
Another interesting tip that many might not know of is how to choose the right color of under eye concealer. Typically, you would think to choose something close to your own skin color. But since orange is the opposite of blue (the underlying color of dark circles) it offsets the bluish color and looks completely natural on almost any skin tone. Another tip when using concealer, to create natural looking nude lips, use it on your lips under a natural beige gloss.

For your hair, if you use gel, try using some leave-in conditioner beforehand. This helps in two ways; first, it helps minimize any long term damage the gel might cause and, second, it keeps hair soft and flexible.

Green tea originates from China and has become popular in the West over the past couple of decades. The most popular green tea comes from the Chinese province Zhejiang. But varieties of green tea come from around 10 different provinces of China and each province produces at least one, if not more, types of green tea.

Japan is also a main producer of green tea. It is so common in Japan that it is not referred to as “green tea” but instead just “tea”. Like China, Japan grows and processes a variety of green teas in different provinces. They are graded based on whichever parts of the plant are used and the quality of those parts. The region Yame, located in the Fukuoka Prefecture, is thought to produce the best green tea across Japan.

Another popular place that produces green tea is Idalgashinna in the Uva Province in Sri Lanka. This Ceylon green tea is considered the most potent of them all and has a richer flavor than most others. Sri Lanka’s production of green tea is generally more limited than that of China and Japan and is mostly available to markets in the North African and Middle East markets.

All the different varieties of green tea have different processes by which they are grown and treated before they reach the market. They also have different flavors, after-tastes, and colors.

While eating certain foods might not necessarily fight off certain health problems they can prevent many common ailments. Moreover, including a variety of superfoods in your diet helps to maintain a healthy weight and boost your health, increasing your chances of living longer. The most important thing you will notice about superfoods is that none of them are processed. They are all best served in their natural and original form!

The first on the list and a favorite of healthcare professionals are blueberries. These help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, while also acting as an anti-inflammatory. They are loaded with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, as well as, have a high level of potassium and vitamin C. Frozen have the same benefits as fresh so try to get in half a cup a day.

The expression, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, doesn’t exist for nothing. This is another food that is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. The pectin in it lowers blood cholesterol and keep the digestive tract healthy. They also take longer to digest so they keep you feeling hungry longer.

Yogurt is another important food. Aside from being a great substitute for those who cannot drink milk due to lactose intolerance, it is full of other important benefits. Among them is its ability to maintain a healthy large intestine. It is packed with healthy bacteria that fight bad bacteria to help aid in certain digestive problems.

A few other notable superfoods are omega 3 foods found in certain fish (like wild salmon, herring, sardines, and mackerel), which you should try to get at least two servings of per week. Beans, broccoli, spinach, turkey, olive oil and walnuts are a few more you should try to include in your diet as often as possible.

There are a lot of misconceptions out there of what and how a pregnant woman should eat. Many women are worried about the extra weight gain that comes with pregnancy and becoming overweight. But, the fact is, you can remain a healthy weight and have a healthy pregnancy at the same time.

The first thing you should know is that most experts say that during the first trimester (the first three months) that you only need an extra 100 calories. After all, the fetus really does not require much more than that to support its healthy development. For the second and third trimesters, you only need 200-300 extra calories. Many people are still under the impression that they should be eating much more than that because they are “eating for two”. This thinking is unhealthy and is what leads to extra and unnecessary weight gain.

A fetus does not require a huge amount of calories to develop healthily and that’s why you do not need more than the extra 300 calories during your pregnancy. These extra calories not only offer nutrition for your unborn baby but some of it is also stored as fat in you. This is your body’s way of sort of insuring you maintain a healthy pregnancy and ability to care for your baby. This extra fat is there to ensure a healthy pregnancy but will easily be shed after giving birth.

Another important habit to develop during pregnancy is to eat a varied and healthy diet. Every bite you take counts now. Think about how you would feed a baby. Would you feed your baby a bag of chips and ice cream? Probably not. That is why you have to make sure you make good choices when it comes to food during your pregnancy. If you feel like you’re not able to vary your diet enough, you can take a maternity vitamin, which should be able to help compensate any shortcomings in your diet.

Who doesn’t love the convenience of fast food or being served a delicious meal at a nice restaurant? At the same time, we are all trying to approach food with a more health-conscious mindset and make healthier, low-fat choices. For many, this simply means rarely eating out. This doesn’t have to be the case though.

Several healthy fast food joints have sprouted all across America. Panera Bread, Chipotle, and Jason’s Deli are just a few to name. These are the same concept as traditional fast food restaurants; food served fast and affordable.

At the same time, a number of popular fast food restaurants now offer healthy alternatives. MacDonald’s now offers several grilled chicken options (both in salads and sandwiches). You can also order a healthy Fruit and Yogurt Parfait. Burger King also offers a grilled chicken sandwich and, additionally, offers a “BK Veggie Burger”. Places like Taco Bell, Subway, Arby’s and KFC are fast food favorites and are also offering more low-calorie options that still taste great and can be enjoyed by anyone.

When eating out you don’t have to resort to eating salads. There are also other great ways to keep your weight under control and enjoy meals at restaurants. You can share a large portion with whoever is eating out with you. Many restaurants offer their meals in smaller portions or half sized portions actually. You can also ask for some dishes to be grilled instead of fried, in some cases. To double check, call the restaurant ahead of time or check online to see what kind of options they have that might accommodate you best.

You can still enjoy eating out and losing weight or simply maintaining your figure without having to steer clear of fast food restaurants altogether.

It can get expensive and frustrating to buy product after product and to not find anything that brings about the desired results in the end. There are several homemade hair masks and deep conditioning treatments you can make on your own and enjoy great results.

The reason why hair shines is basically due to the hair being well moisturized and healthy from both the inside and out. You can use all kinds of everyday items straight from your refrigerator that you might not have thought about using on your hair before. A combination of honey and olive oil, left on the hair for half an hour is a great moisturizer. You can also try adding avocado to this mixture. Eggs and olive oil are another great combo to improve moisture and shine. Open up the refrigerator and see what fruits you have; toss them in the blender with a banana and some yogurt as a healthy
fruity hair mask (it will smell great!). Some great fruits are strawberries, cantaloupes, and lemons. Almond oil and mayonnaise are also great natural treatments to try combined with other ingredients or alone.

After applying your natural hair mask, wrap your head in plastic wrap for about half an hour (or a little longer) and then shampoo. Be creative and try different combinations of things and see how it turns out. You might come up with just the right for your hair.

Of course, it is also important to eat right. Eat healthy foods that are good for your hair, which would be green leafy vegetables and any foods high in protein. Remember to use hair products that have SPF in them when out in the sun to protect your hair.

If you eat the right foods and the right portions, you can lose weight easily, even if you are not particularly active. There is no need for fad dieting if you can manage to incorporate the following tips into your diet as often as possible.

The first thing to do is learn to shrink you portions. Start by gradually adding less food to your plate and make sure the foods you do add are a healthy variety. Your dinner plate, for example, should include a variety of protein, vegetables, and a small amount of fat, as well as, carbohydrates. When you get used to smaller portions you will find yourself filling up quickly. You can still enjoy treats like ice cream, chocolate, and cakes, but also in much smaller portions. Try having more meals but in smaller amounts. By controlling your portion sizes and having more meals you inadvertently decrease your calorie intake, keep your blood sugar level at a steady level, keep your metabolism active and functioning regularly, and significantly reduce the risk of nutrition deficiency since you will most likely be getting a variety of foods.

A variety of foods will help you feel full longer and reduce sugar cravings, which is a major goal for those seeking to lose extra weight. Foods that achieve this based on several studies are eggs, beans, pears, lean beef, vinegar, hot red pepper, and nuts. Cinnamon is great at regulating blood sugar level and giving you a healthy energy boost. Green tea is another excellent food for weight loss. The antioxidants in it called catechins help to speed up metabolism and burn fat.

By now you probably understand the importance of a good body scrub. It gets rid of dead skin cells, revealing a glowing and healthy skin underneath and often has skin nourishing ingredients that your skin needs. Whether you have dry skin or oily, you should never underestimate the importance of exfoliation and giving your skin a well deserved treat.

While many high end brands boast natural ingredients that have a number of benefits for your skin, they usually also cost a small fortune. However, beautiful skin does not have to be costly and you can achieve the same results with your own ingredients at home for a fraction of the price.

Different ingredients will give you varying results but there is usually a standard basic scrubbing ingredient like rice, sea salt, brown sugar, or oatmeal, which is the key factor in your home made exfoliating scrub. You then build a paste around this exfoliant base. Brown sugar is
especially good if you have sensitive skin or want to scrub sensitive areas like the neck or chest. You can add things like almond oil or paste, grapeseed oil, and various essential oils for nourishing and moisturizing. For oily skin you can try a scrub of oatmeal, lemon juice, yogurt, and peppermint oil.

Use these scrubs like you would a store bought one; exfoliate in the shower and then rinse off. The key, when making your scrub, is ensure you have a thick enough consistency to scrub your body with, which you can adjust by adding more or less liquid to your exfoliant.
