There are certain foods that nutritionists and healthcare professionals highly recommend for overall health. While eating certain foods might not necessarily fight off certain health problems they can prevent many common ailments. Moreover, including a variety of superfoods in your diet helps to maintain a healthy weight and boost your health, increasing your chances of living longer. The first on the list and a favorite of healthcare professionals are blueberries. These help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, while also acting as an anti-inflammatory. They are loaded with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, as well as, have a high level of potassium and vitamin C. Frozen have the same benefits as fresh so try to get in half a cup a day.
The expression, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, doesn’t exist for nothing. This is another food that is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. The pectin in it lowers blood cholesterol and keep the digestive tract healthy. They also take longer to digest so they keep you feeling hungry longer.
Yogurt is another important food. Aside from being a great substitute for those who cannot drink milk due to lactose intolerance, it is full of other important benefits. Among them is its ability to maintain a healthy large intestine. It is packed with healthy bacteria that fight bad bacteria to help aid in certain digestive problems.
A few other notable superfoods are omega 3 foods found in certain fish (like wild salmon, herring, sardines, and mackerel), which you should try to get at least two servings of per week. Beans, broccoli, spinach, turkey, olive oil and walnuts are a few more you should try to include in your diet as often as possible.
